This piece is about the ancient period, the story of how migrant people coalesced around a agricultural society and how that provided them the means to blossom intellectually. Typically the history of Greece is divided into two parts, ancient and classical. Since Philip the II brings about the end of classical ‘ancient Greece’ we wanted to look at how the Greece remembered by history came to be. Greece would remain under foreign rule until the beginning of the 19 th century. Before this the Greek city-states had never been united, but they had enjoyed a level of autonomy that was taken away when Philip the II came to power.
